Reverse the Signs of Aging on Face Using PRP Injection Aka Blood Facial

Plasma-rich Platelets (PRP) is a cosmetic treatment that has been traditionally used for years to help with muscle injuries. It involves injecting an injured person’s affected area with their platelets which in turn accelerates healing. Lately PRP injection is increasingly being used to treat hair conditions like baldness and skin conditions associated with aging.

How does PRP work?

The liquid portion of the blood that lets platelets, red blood and white blood cells flow through the blood is called plasma. Platelets are responsible for blood clotting and have healing properties.  PRP is a non-invasive method that uses the healing powers of a person’s platelets in order to promote cell stimulation and repair in muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and skin.

What do expect during the PRP procedure?

Initial preparations:

Your doctor gathers information about the medicines you are taking. He/ she will ask you to stop taking blood thinner pills, certain vitamins and supplements. You would have to abstain from alcohol and caffeine few weeks leading to the procedure. Consume food before the procedure so that you don’t feel light-headed when the specialist draws blood.

Procedure:

  • The specialist draws blood usually from your arm.
  • The vial containing the blood is taken to the lab and placed in a centrifuge to separate platelets from other blood constituents.
  • A topical anesthetic or an ice pack is placed 30 minutes before injecting the PRP solution.
  • The PRP solution is injected into the site of treatment using injection or microneedling

The procedure uses blood from the patient’s own body eliminating the risk of contamination or rejection. It is done within 30 minutes and helps to improve the overall health of your skin. You may notice bruising and soreness in the treated area for few hours. Avoid washing the treated area for 48 hours after the procedure. Contact your doctor if you experience sharp pain.

It takes few weeks after the injection to start seeing effects. Multiple sessions can be suggested according to the severity of the condition being treated.
